BallnRoll’s Breakdown for the Best Bets for the End of Season Awards
Best Bets For End Of Season Awards
Time is quickly running out. Now is basically the last chance to place bets for end of season awards before a) the odds plummet and b) before odds are removed. The payouts obviously aren’t as lucrative as they would be if you placed these bets prior to the season starting, but there is still plenty of value to be had. Here is a breakdown of a few markets where there is money to be made.
Note: odds are very Bet365 and DraftKings sports book, but as always, shop around.
MVP: Giannis Antetokounmpo (-120 / 1.83)
Place this bet immediately! I can almost guarantee that odds will be dropping very shortly, so place your bets while it is still at a very reasonable price. History shows that the MVP is typically someone who is not only having an incredible year, but who is also one of the best team’s in the league. We all know this is a two horse race (though Paul George is inching closer) and I don’t want to take anything away from James Harden who has had a historic year. But the Rockets are 35-25, barely good enough for 5thplace in the West. Giannis’ major advantage is that the Bucks have the best record in the NBA and he is their key cog on both ends of the floor. Look, I simply can’t see him not winning this award, invest with confidence on this one.
Coach Of The Year: Mike Budenholzer (+125 / 2.25)
Last season the Milwaukee Bucks finished the season with a 44-38 record. This year, through 60 games, the team is 46-14. Surely, they’ve made plenty of upgrades to the roster, right? Wrong! With the exception of a few role players being brought in the only difference this year is the schemes and game-plans that new head coach Mike Budenholzer has instilled! This guy can coach man. He did it with a sub-par Hawks team a couple of years ago and he is doing it again now. My only slight concern here is that the Raptors may catch the Bucks atop the Eastern Conference. If that happens, and if the Nuggets stay in at least second place (which it seems very likely that they will), then I think Michael Malone will win the award. But, I’m will to take the risk. The Bucks have shown no signs of letting off and hold the tie-breaker advantage over the Raptors. At plus money, Budenholzer to be the coach of the year looks like a solid bet.
Defensive Player Of The Year: Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1200, 13.00)
These odds are incredible! Paul George, though he is having a fantastic year defensively, seems quite overpriced as a -200 favourite. At +1200, I would feel like a fool not sprinkling a bit of coin on Giannis, especially when considering that he has the highest player rating on defense in the NBA. By the way, it isn’t unprecedented for a player to win both MVP and DPOY in the same season. Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon have done it before. With that said, with the magnificent season Giannis his having and with the success the Bucks are having, let’s make it a clean sweep with the Bucks dominating the awards! Good luck!
