Mavericks Acquire Kristaps Porzingis in Blockbuster Trade with Knicks

Trade season is officially underway!

The Dallas Mavericks have acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the New York Knicks, along with Courtney Lee, Tim Hardaway Jr and Trey Burke in exchange for Dennis Smith Jr, DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and future first-round draft compensation.

If you are completely bewildered, I don’t blame you. Early Thursday afternoon, Porzingis reportedly met with the Knicks management, voiced his concerns over the direction of the franchise and said that he would prefer to be traded.

The Knicks have stated multiple times that they are looking to create cap space for free agency this summer, and though they have managed to do that, it has come at the cost of their franchise player.

For the Mavericks, pairing Porzingis with Luka Doncic is a no-brainer, and by all accounts, it doesn’t seem like they gave much up to him.

Porzingis remains injured and will likely be sitting out the remainder of the season.
