Raptors Looking to Make Splash

Toronto Raptors Looking to Make Big Splash at Trade Deadline

In a somewhat shocking turn of events, the Grizzlies have reportedly declined the Raptors offer of Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas for Mike Conley and Marc Gasol.

The same report also added that Lowry is ‘aware’ of the current trade talks.

In search of draft picks and younger assets, it seems clear why Memphis declined the deal. The Raptors would probably need to include someone like OG Anunoby to get the Grizzlies to seriously consider the offer.

From the Raptors perspective, this seems like a very curious, if not desperate move. Conley and Gasol are perhaps marginal upgrades over Lowry and Valanciunas, though they come with huge contracts and troubling injury histories.

This season may represent Toronto’s best chance to win a title, but if this trade is the Raptors idea of going on all-in, then they may need to re-think their goals and ambitions.
