Philadelphia 76ers Acquire Tobias Harris in Tuesday Night Blockbuster

Gotta love waking up to blockbuster trade deals like this! The Clippers have agreed to trade Tobias Harris, Boban Marjanovic and Mike Scott to the 76ers for Landry Shamet, Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala, 2020 first-rounder, 2021 unprotected 1stvia Miami and two second rounders.

At first glance, for the 76ers, the acquisition gives them an absolutely stacked starting five featuring Ben Simmons, J.J. Redick, Jimmy Butler, Harris and Joel Embiid, perhaps making them the new favourites in the Eastern Conference. They will be busy in the off-season, however, as they plan on re-signing both Harris and Butler to new contracts to keep a ‘new Big 4’ of Harris, Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

From the Clippers perspective, a) they have pulled the plug on making the playoffs this season and b) they have cleared cap space and have ambitions to attract marquee free agents like Kawhi Leonard and Anthony Davis this summer. Also, if they were not planning on re-signing Harris this offseason, a solid young player in Landry Shamet and two 1st round picks is a pretty nice haul.

Tobias Harris, meanwhile, is in the midst of the best season of his career and took to Twitter moments after the trade went through with an interesting post.
