Amid Anthony Davis Drama, New Orleans Pelicans Fire Dell Demps
An ugly situation in New Orleans has taken another turn.
As the NBA is set to bring in All-Star Weekend, the Pelicans stole all of the headlines as they did during trade deadline season. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the team and general manager Dell Demps have decided to part ways on Friday. The move comes a few weeks after franchise centrepiece Anthony Davis requested to be traded by the team.
Currently in 13th in the Western Conference at 26-33, the Pelicans are six games back of the Los Angeles Clippers for the eighth playoff spot.
The Pelicans are considering internal candidates to replace Demps, including director of player personnel David Booth and special advisor Danny Ferry, who previously served as a general manager for both the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Atlanta Hawks.
Although the team has moved on from Demps, it does not appear as the Pelicans are looking to replace head coach Alvin Gentry at this time.
