Jason Kidd Would be Interested in Coaching in LA Next Season
Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, is itching to get back into coaching ‘at any level’. Initially, his name surfaced as a potential replacement for Wyking Jones at his alma mater, California, but NBA sources have reported that he is a strong candidate for the Los Angeles Lakers’ job this off-season.
“I think Cal is a great institution. We’ll see what happens,” Kidd said. “Right now, it’s nice to be wanted and it jus tells me I’m doing the right thing. I think the year off helps clean up some things, too, just to refocus and have that energy.
Asked specifically about the Lakers job, Kidd said he would be patient in the pcoess and believes that Luke Walton has done an incredible job in challenging circumstances.
He also added that, “The Lakers are one of the best franchises in the world; if you have the opportunity to wear the purple and gold, as a coach, player, whatever the case, you can’t turn that down.”
The fit of Kidd with the Lakers is an interesting one. LeBron James has always respected Kidd, but there are doubts as to whether Kidd has the gravitas to coach James, and how receptive LeBron would be to him on the sidelines.
