Dirk Nowitzki Passes Wilt Chamberlain on Scoring List
It was just another night in the office for Dirk Nowitzki.
In his 21st season in the League, the aging star has reached yet another milestone. On Monday night, Nowitzki passed Wilt Chamberlain to reclaim the number 6 spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
And point 31,420 came in the most Dirk way imaginable.
“The ‘Big Dipper,’ huh? It’s amazing,” said Nowitzki, who scored eight points in 12 minutes in the Mavericks loss. “It’s been a long time coming this season, knowing before the year it was only 200-something points [away]. Then there were times when I thought I’m not going to make it, the way the season went with the injury. Coming off the injury was just super, super slow. But the last few weeks felt better, and I’ve been playing better, and the team was obviously looking for me and telling me to shoot.
“I’m glad it’s over with now.”
It still remains uncertain if Nowitzki will be calling it quits after this season. Michael Jordan is next up on the list, but the 800-plus point margin may be a tad bit insurmountable for the 40-year old.
Nowitzki has spent his entire 21-year career with the Mavs.
