NCAA Conference Tournament Best Bets
As the major conference tournaments are heating up, there is plenty of money to be made. Here are some valuable bets to make before the big dance begins next week.
Iowa State to win Big 12 (+300 / 4.00)
I absolutely love the value we are getting here with a hot Cyclone team. They face Kansas State in the semis and I firmly believe the winner of that game will win the tournament. Kansas and West Virginia square off in the other semi-final, and the Jayhawks just look too vulnerable without Lagerald Vick. Iowa State, meanwhile, is healthy and looking like an all-around juggernaut with plenty of depth and scoring to lean on. Kansas State won’t be an easy foe, but I think they edge by and advance to the finals to defeat Kansas. At +300, I think this holds plenty of value
Villanova to win Big East (+125 / 2.25)
It’s true, this isn’t the same National Championship-contending Villanova from the previous few seasons, but the Wildcats are still more than capable of making some noise. Led by Phil Booth and Eric Paschall, coach Jay Wright will be hoping that his team has waited until now to peak. The main reason I like them to win the Big East is because they have the easier semi-final opponent. Nova should get by Xavier without too many issues to set up a meeting in the finals against either Seton Hall or Marquette.
Tennessee to win SEC (+250 / 3.50)
This one is tough because the SEC is among the most evenly-matched conferences in all of college basketball. At this price, however, I think there is reasonable value in backing Tennessee. After starting the year on fire, the Volunteers cooled down as of late, but I believe they’ll be motivated to win the SEC and improve their stock heading into the NCAA tournament, to at least lock up a two seed. Tennessee is an experienced senior-laden squad led by All-American’s Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield. The road won’t be easy, as they’ll likely need to go through Kentucky in the semi’s and either LSU, Florida, or Auburn in the finals, but I think Tennessee has it in them.
