Zion Williamson Amazes in Return Win Against Syracuse
ACC Player of the Year, Zion Williamson returned to action last night as Duke notched a comfortable 84-72 victory against Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. Duke once again showed that, when healthy, they are serious national championship contenders.
As for Zion, let’s just say there wasn’t very much rustiness in his game. In fact, he went off for the baseball equivalent of a perfect game, finishing with 29 points on 13-13 shooting (!), with 14 rebounds, 5 steals and a black. Talk about filling up a stat-sheet… He was a one-man wrecking crew, quickly quieting those who doubted his health and motivation to come back and play.
“For the people that think I should stop playing in college and just focus on the NBA, thanks, but no thanks,” he said. “Im not really worried about that. Like, I’m just trying to be Zion and just play the game I love.”
Syracuse had no answers for him last night, so they resorted to trying to injure him:
Also, following the shoe-gate issue, Zion moved on from Paul George’s sneakers, lacing up the Nike Kyrie 4’s last night:
In defeating Syracuse, Duke now advances to the ACC Tournament semi-finals to face North Carolina for the third time in less than a month. It is worth noting that, North Carolina won the first two meetings, though Duke will likely enter the game as favourites, with a healthy Zion.
Both Duke and North Carolina are very much in the mix for a one seed in the NCAA tournament next week. Should North Carolina defeat Duke for a third consecutive time, they would likely guarantee themselves a one-seed, regardless of how they do in the finals against most likely Virginia. Duke, meanwhile, definitely needs to beat North Carolina, and possibly win the ACC Tournament too, to lock up a one-seed.
