Houston Rockets Travel to the Bay Area Early to Prepare for the Warriors

You will almost never see this in the NBA. Teams usually tend to be very superstitious and adopt a ‘it isn’t over until it’s over’ attitude. This is definitely an anomaly.

The Rockets will travel to the Bay Area today to prepare for a series against the Golden State Warriors. The issue? The Warriors are still in the midst of their first round series against the Clippers with Game 6 going tonight at the Staples Center.

In what should definitely ruffle some feathers and add to the overflowing motivation of the underdog Clippers, the Rockets have made it clear that they mean ‘no disrespect’ and are doing what they need to do to put themselves in the best position possible.

The plan for them is to arrive in the Bay Area today, practice at Oracle Arena tomorrow and simply take a few days to acclimate to Pacific Time. If the Warriors eliminate the Clippers tonight, they would host Houston on Sunday at 12:30pm for Game 1. That is an unusually early start time for a West Coast team so it does make sense for the Rockets to prepare in advance for that.

If, however, the Clippers find a way to pull out another win tonight, then Houston’s strategy could backfire, as they would likely travel back home and postpone their preparations for a few days.

I mean look, the whole world believes that the Warriors will bounce back and conclude their series with the Clippers tonight so the Rockets plans make sense, but you still get an uneasy feeling in sports when teams plan ahead like this and predict an unknown outcome.
