Miami Heat Waive Rodney McGruder Amid Playoff Push
In the middle of an intense playoff race, the Miami Heat have made the perplexing decision of waiving an important role player, Rodney McGruder.

It sounds as though it is a tax-saving move, as the Heat look to offload McGruder’s $1.5 million salary if he is claimed off of waivers. That way, the team would avoid the luxury tax and push repeater concerns to 2022-23 at the earliest.
Luxury tax aside, it is a baffling move as McGruder has been a valuable contributor for the Heat. Just yesterday, the 27 year old played 23 minutes against the Raptors. On the season, he is averaging 7.6 points and 3.6 rebounds per 23.5 minutes per game.
Though still only one game back from the final 8thseed, the move may effectively be the Heat waving the white flag and preparing for their future.
McGruder is not eligible for the playoffs.
