Los Angeles Lakers May be Closing in On Selecting Their Next Head Coach
About a week after parting ways with Luke Walton who has since moved onto become the head coach of the Sacramento Kings, the Los Angeles Lakers may be nearing a decision.
With plans to interview Juwan Howard on Tuesday, the Lakers have extended second interviews to both Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams. Lue has apparently already met with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka in what was described as a relaxed 90-minute meeting. Both Williams and Lue are slated to meet with team owner Jeanie Buss before the Lakers come down with a final decision.
ESPN reporting with @McTen: Ty Lue’s meeting w/ Lakers GM Rob Pelinka today was similar to Monty Williams’ earlier in week: Get to know each other, setting up second interviews focused more on specifics. Lakers plan to bring back both coaches for sit-downs including Jeanie Buss.

Multiple reports have suggested that Lue is the favourite to land the job. Lue has previously coached Lakers superstar LeBron James while the duo were in Cleveland. Together, they led the Cavaliers to their first championship in franchise history back in 2016.
The Lakers have yet to announce any details on their plans to find a new President of Basketball Operations in light of Magic Johnson stepping down from the position at the conclusion of the regular season. Kobe Bryant is a name that has surfaced as a potential fit for the executive role.
Lots of big decisions are left to be made in Los Angeles prior to the start of free agency.
