Amid 50-Point Performance, Durant to New York Knicks Rumours Grow
The Golden State Warriors are moving onto the conference semifinals and off the heels of an incredible 50 point performance from Kevin Durant, there is still plenty of concern around the organization regarding the superstar’s future with the team.
According to sources, both current and former teammates of Durant believe that KD to the New York Knicks is a forgone conclusion at this point. The popular opinion around the league is that Durant views the opportunity to play for New York as a way of showing he can win anywhere and not just on a team that put together a 73-win regular season.
“Just a matter of putting pen to paper,” said one agent of another top 2019 top free agent about Durant to the Knicks.
The Warriors will now meet the Houston Rockets in the second round of the playoffs and in light of DeMarcus Cousins’ season-ending leg injury, the Warriors will rely heavily on the play of Durant.
“It was one of the great performances I’ve ever seen in my life,” head coach Steve Kerr said following the Game 6 win. “I’ve seen some good ones, been around some decent players. He just carried us these last couple games of the series. He’s the ultimate weapon because there’s no defense for Kevin. No matter what anybody does, he can get a good shot. And he knew we needed him badly, and he just took over the game in the first half and set a great tone.”
Los Angeles Clippers sixth man Lou Williams added that there was really no way to stop Durant in Game 6.
“We tried everything. We had several different coverages for KD…Like sometimes — sometimes you come across special people and it doesn’t matter what you send to them. There’s no scheme. There’s no nothing that you can do with special people. He’s one of them. And he showed it tonight. He put them guys on his shoulders.”
There are multiple executives who believe that Kyrie Irving will join the New York Knicks in free agency as well.
