Coaching Team Canada

Toronto Raptors Head Coach to Coach Team Canada in FIBA World Cup

It seems as though Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse has done enough to impress Team Canada’s general manager Rowan Barrett.

With the FIBA World Cup coming up this August, a media report from RDS has confirmed that Nurse has been named the new head coach of the Canadian national team. Long-term coach and former head coach of the Raptors Jay Triano recently withdrew himself from coaching the national program, citing “personal reasons”. Ryerson University head coach Roy Rana was a favourite to land the position after leading the Canadian U19 team to 2017 World Cup gold.

Expectations will be higher than ever for the Canadians this summer as the program will more than likely to boast a roster filled with NBA talent. Cory Joseph (Indiana Pacers), Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets), Tristan Thompson (Cleveland Indians), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (LA Clippers), Kelly Olynyk (Miami Heat), and Duke standout RJ Barrett are all expected to suit up for the Canadians.

The World Cup tips off on August 31 in China and runs through September 15.

Canada will being in a very tough Group H where they will square off against Lithuania, Australia, and Senegal.
