In a relatively short period of time, Jasikevicius has had great success. For three seasons he has coached Zalgiris to unprecedented success. With one of the smallest budgets in the Euroleague, Jasikevicius led them to the Final 4 last year and to a birth in the playoffs this year. On top of that, he has captured the Lithuanian LKL championship for three consecutive seasons.
Jasikevicius played for Maryland during college, before going abroad to play successfully in Europe. He had a brief two year stint in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers and Golden State Warriors from 2005-07, averaging 6.8 points while shooting 35.5 percent from 3-point range.
The Grizzlies had a down year, finishing with an overall record of 33-49, but there were some encouraging signs to build on. One in particular, was the strong play of Jonas Valanciunas in the second half of the season. Perhaps the Grizzlies are looking to build their team around him, figuring that Jasikevicius, a fellow Lithuanian, can get the best out of JV.
