NBA Trainer Chris Brickley Transforming Players’ Games
Between an exclusive shoe deal with Puma and having nearly 60 NBA players as clients, Chris Brickley has created somewhat of his own basketball empire.
He “has has blurred the lines of coaching, social media influence, style and hoops culture in recent years” according to one ESPN article.
One of the most sought-after basketball trainer in the world has a star-studded list of players who seek out his guidance in the offseason, looking to use his advice to improve their game and take it to the next level. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the sport, from LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony to Kevin Durant and CJ McCollum.
Over the summer, Brickley turned into an overnight social media star when his Instagram clips featured some of NBA’s best running games against each other at his workplace, Life Time Athletic. With more intensity than in an actual All-Star Game, basketball fans got to witness stars of the calibre of Chris Paul, James Harden, and Russell Westbrook go at each other in fierce bouts of competition.
But outside of his self-made Instagram fame, over time, Brickley has earned the status of one of basketball’s best trainers, helping transform the games of some of the most recognizable names in the NBA.
“There’s a million trainers that have NBA guys,” Brickley said in an interview with The Undefeated. “That’s the reality of it. I don’t feel like I have competition because I don’t think I’m a trainer. These guys look at me as someone who can help them on a day-to-day, help them with basketball, help them with [life].”
D’Angelo Russell of the Brooklyn Nets has spent time training with Brickley in the offseason, crediting him for helping him with improving the way he finishes around the rim and becoming an overall better shooter. The Nets All-Star has called Brickley more than just a trainer, but a “scientist” and a “basketball guru”. It is no surprise that this past season, Russell was able to elevate his game to an All-Star level, pushing the Nets back into the playoff picture.

@dloading has been playing GREAT basketball on both ends of the court. The Nets are on a 6 game winning streak. DLo is averaging a career high 18ppg while shooting a career high from the field & from 3pt. On top of that he’s averaging a career high 6apg 🔹 He’s definitely showing his value!
He has seen a vast improvement in his field goal, three-point field goal, and true shooting percentages, has become more in control of his body and stronger when taking the ball to the rim, and has used all of this to witness a six point jump in his per game scoring.
“My whole life I dreamed of being where I’m at,” Brickley said. “At this point, I’ll do anything I can to help these guys help themselves.”
He has been able to do exactly that.
Lauded by dozens of NBA players, Brickley has aided McCollum of the Portland Trailblazers with not only continuing to improve as a shooter, but becoming more consistent when putting the ball on the deck. He has worked tirelessly with Enes Kanter on improving his footwork and touch around the basket, and has pushed Blake Griffin to evolve into a more complete player as the athletic forward has continued to age. The list goes on and on.
“He’s different than other coaches,” Kanter said in an interview after one of his workouts with Brickley. “He actually spends time and really cares about how the players feel. Lots of the coaches in the NBA, in the summer time, they just wanna get the work done as soon as possible so they can go the beach and hang out. But him, he actually spends time on the player.”
As a new offseason nears, many players, whether they are stars or role players are going to change the landscape of the league for years to come. Whether it is through free agency or trade, the NBA will look far different at the start of next season. But that being said, one thing is for certain, many of these players will be making regular stops at Life Time Athletic this summer to work with the basketball guru, Chris Brickley.
