After a gruelling season, where he carried a huge burden and played an excessive amount of minutes, there was quite a bit of doubt surrounding Jokic’s availability this summer. He was even getting some criticism from back home for prioritizing the Nuggets over his country.
“I am very pleased with everything I did in the NBA this season, I had a great year in which I performed at the All-Star game and was selected to the All-NBA first team. For me, the cherry on top of this whole season would be a medal with the national team,” Jokic said. “I am fully prepared to do my best to achieve this goal.”
Jokic led Serbia to the silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil, and with his services this summer, they will enter the tournament as one of the favourties behind the United States.
The FIBA World Cup gets underway August 31.
