RC Buford Set to Move into New Role, Wright Promoted to Spurs GM
Call it a changing of the guard.
One of the unsung heroes of the San Antonio Spur long with-standing dynasty has been General Manager RC Buford. Named the general manager of the Spurs in 2002, the Spurs went onto win four of their five championships with Buford running operations alongside head coach Gregg Popovich.
After 17 years, the 58-year old Buford is ready to enter a new role with the franchise and is handing the reigns of the GM position over to Brian Wright. Wright has been the team’s assistant general manager since 2016.
Wright has led negotiations with the likes of Rudy Gay and was even involved in discussion related to Kawhi Leonard and DeMarre Carroll.
Known to be “engaging, authentic and trustworthy” as well as “sharp” by agents across the league, the promotion seems to be yet another great move by the Spurs organization.
