Tickets to First NBA Game to be Held in India Sold Out Within 2 Hours
Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé will have quite the homecoming when the NBA hosts its first two games in India on October 4 and 5.
This will mark the first time in league history that a NBA game will be played in India and fans were very clearly excited. Wasting no time whatsoever, tickets to both of the Sacramento Kings vs. India Pacers matchups were sold out within the first two hours of going on sale. According to Diane Gotua, the NBA’s vice president of global business operations, the rate at which the tickets were sold was faster than ever anticipated.
“You’ll feel like you’re actually in an arena in Houston or New York – bringing that authentic NBA experience to Mumbai is key. But at the same time, we also want to add local flavor,” Gotua said. “We want our players and league staff to say, ‘Wow that was an amazing global game.’ There shouldn’t be a difference between a game played in Mumbai and in a North American city.”
The games will take place at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai, the Ranadivé’s hometown.
