Kyle Kuzma Out with Ankle Injury, Team USA FIBA Roster Set at 12
On the day the Americans finalized their FIBA World Cup roster, they painfully watched their 78-game international winning streak, which spanned 13 years, come to an end at the hands of the Australians.
Led by Patty Mills’ 30 points, Australia outlasted USA by a score of 98-94 in a pre-World Cup tune-up on Saturday in Melbourne. Utah Jazz forward Joe Ingles added 15 points in America’s first loss since it’s 2006 world championship semifinals defeat against Greece.
“They wanted it more than us tonight,” U.S. guard Kemba Walker said. “Lesson learned for us.”
On Saturday, Kyle Kuzma became the final cut after suffering an ankle injury, pushing the American roster to the tournament limit of 12. The roster representing the United States in China will look as follows:
- Kemba Walker
- Donovan Mitchell
- Mason Plumlee
- Jayson Tatum
- Jaylen Brown
- Derrick White
- Joe Harris
- Marcus Smart
- Harrison Barnes
- Khris Middleton
- Brook Lopez
- Myles Turner
The Americans remain confident as they are set to embark on their tournament journey in a relatively weak Group E, which is rounded out by Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Japan. Their first game is slated for next Sunday against the Czechs.
