Toronto Raptors Congratulate Stunning Andreescu on US Open Victory

On Saturday afternoon, Canadian teenager Bianca Andreescu shocked the world when she upset tennis legend Serena Williams in straight sets in the US Open Finals.

The 19-year old became the first ever Canadian to win a grand slam, etching her name in history and bringing Canada one of it’s signature sporting moments. Andreescu won the first set 6-3, and then held off an incredible Williams comeback bid, taking set two by a score of 7-5.

“This is incredible for Canada and Canadian Tennis,” Sylvain Bruneau, Andreescu’s coach, said after the championship match. “It is our biggest moment. We don’t have too much of a tennis history, but we are trying to build it. And you know what? It makes me so happy for every tennis fan in the country that Bianca is able to provide moments like this. She can attract more people to tennis. We can make it even more popular.”

Marking another huge win for Canada, the Toronto Raptors made a very nice gesture on their social media following Andreescu’s win, posting a picture which showed the organization’s NBA championship next to a jersey with Andreescu’s name on the back of it. The no. 1 symbolizing the US Open win.

Very well played, Raptors!

First an NBA champion, now a US Open title – Canada has come to play in 2019!
