NBA, NIKE has Banned “Ninja-Styled” Headbands Despite Popularity
That fashion statement didn’t last long.
Last season, a plethora of NBA stars began rocking “ninja-styled” headbands. It was a new look that caught on like rapid fire and was pioneered by the likes of Jimmy Butler, Mo Harkless, and seemingly every member of the New Orleans Pelicans, including Jrue Holiday. It was a popular look that has since been adopted by NFL players as seen in Week 1 of the season this past weekend.
But after just one year, the NBA has opted to ban the look after its apparel partner NIKE discontinued the production of the popular bands. An odd and rather lame decision after such an explosion in popularity. Philadelphia 76ers forward Mike Scott believes that the NBA and NIKE thought the look was “too unprofessional”, and therefore simply opted to ban the headbands altogether.
So unless the rule is erased, the ninja-styled headbands have given us just one year of memories, so let’s take a look at some of the names who donned the fresh look on the court during the 2018-19 campaign.
