Re-living Friday: Recapping an Exciting Start to NBA’s All-Star Weekend

NBA All-Star Weekend got off to a hot start with two exciting events on day 1 of the three-day spectacle.

Kicking things off with the 2020 Celebrity Game and wrapping the night off with the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge, Friday night had it all and was the perfect start to what will be an awesome weekend for NBA fans. Saturday night will be just as exciting with the Skills Challenge, Three-Point Shootout, and Slam Dunk Contest.

Let’s quickly recap the night that was as we prepare for day 2 of the festivities.

  • The Fun Starts Early

Ex-NFL DT Anthony Adams showed off some of his interesting basketball moves in what turned out to be a fun and exciting celebrity game.

It’s fair to assume that Spice Adams was hoping for a better outcome.

  • Common Leads Team Wilbon to Win

Stephen A. Smith was entertaining, but he wasn’t able to will his team past Team Wilbon in this year’s Celebrity Game.

Winning by a score of 62-47, Team Wilbon was led by rapper and actor, Common, who took home MVP honours after finishing the night with 10 points, five boards, and even picking up four steals in the winning effort.

It did notΒ help Stephen A. that his celebrity basketball star Quavo was cold from the field all night long.

  • Nutmeg Trae

Trae Young has just about every move in his back pocket, and he whipped one out specially for the Rising Stars Challenge.

Defended by Team World’s RJ Barrett, Young pulled out the nutmeg early in the evening, providing the Canadian rookie with one of his first “Welcome to the NBA” humbling moments. Young would finish the night with 18 points, while Barrett led all scores with 27.

Young is simply too smooth with the basketball.

  • Luka the Magician

It’s Luka Doncic’s world and we’re all just living in it.

In an effortless attempt, Doncic finished up the first half of the Rising Stars game with a buzzer-beating heave from half-court which hit off the backboard and fell right through the net. Doncic couldn’t help but laugh as he celebrated the shot with Team USA’s Trae Young.

The two sophomores will be opponents once again when they take on each other in Sunday’s All-Star Game.

  • Human Highlight Reel

Zion Williamson scored 14 point on the night in a Team USA victory, but it was his high flying dunks that had the fans hungry for more on Friday in Chicago. Maybe the most impressive dunk of the night, Williamson received a half-court alley-oop from former AAU teammate Ja Morant and proceeded to bending the rim while slamming the ball through the hoop.

These rims must be very happy knowing that Zion won’t be showcasing anymore of his high-flying dunks this weekend.

  • MVP Came to Play

Finishing the night with 20 points, five boards, and five assists, Miles Bridges helped lead Team USA’s comeback efforts against Team World en route to a 151-131 victory.

The Charlotte Hornets sophomore was impressive to say the least on the Friday night stage.
