New York Knicks Hire Former Player Agent Leon Rose as New President
Breathe Toronto Raptors fans, it’s not Masai Ujiri.
With the trade deadline just hours away, the New York Knicks made a move we don’t see too often around this time – they hired a new president of basketball operations. The new man in town is none other than former player agent, Leon Rose.
He has represented the likes of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Karl-Anthony Towns, and has built a reputation around being a workhorse and one of the more respected agents in all of sports. Now, he is stepping into unfamiliar territory as the new president of the New York Knicks.
Rose will not be the first agent to take over basketball operations. Bob Myers of the Golden State Warriors has found incredible success in his role with the franchise, while Rob Pelinka looks to have turned around the Los Angeles Lakers organization as the team’s general manager. The Knicks hope that Rose is the next player agent-turned-executive to find success in the NBA.
“His strength is his interconnections with every element of basketball — shoe companies, general managers, players,” said an individual close to Rose.
The Knicks fired Steve Mills earlier in the week and clearly made strides to find his replacement quickly.
