Green Adamant Warriors Would Have Beaten Raptors with Healthy KD
Sometimes, you need a little bit of luck to win it all.
The Toronto Raptors overcame many obstacles en route to capturing the franchise’s first ever championship.
From outlasting a very tough Philadelphia 76ers team, to defeating the Giannis Antetokounmpo-led Milwaukee Bucks, it was indisputable that the Raptors were a formidable team. They were led by a superstar, anchored by a stout defense, and loaded with secondary stars and valuable depth pieces.
Yet, Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors still believes that the Raptors would have lost in the NBA Finals if Kevin Durant was healthy.
“Once we got Kevin, we were f–king unstoppable,” Green said of signing Durant in 2016. “Even losing last year, Kevin don’t get hurt—you seen the game he came back in Game 5, I looked up, it was like six minutes to go, we had like 40 points in the first quarter—and so they wouldn’t have stood a chance if Kevin didn’t get hurt.”
Green appeared on the latest episode of All the Smoke, a podcast hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, and discussed a variety of topics including the results of last season’s Finals.
Durant missed the majority of the postseason with a calf strain before returning in Game 5 of the Finals. With the Warriors building a head of steam, Durant left the ballgame in the second quarter after tearing his Achilles. He would miss the remainder of the series and the Raptors would take out the Warriors in six games.
The Raptors were an incredible team, but sometimes a little bit of luck can’t hurt either.
