How Much Staff Will Be Required for the NBA’s Return to Play?
Things appear to really be coming together for a potential return to play for the NBA.
According to Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the NBA will require around 36-38 referees in order to finish out the regular season and the playoffs. Per RealGM “that number takes into account having three refs for an average of eight games to finish out the regular season, as well as extra crews for rest and injury.”
Along with a referee crew, television producers believe that games can make do with smaller crews of as few as five manned cameras. Between both camera operators and other necessary production staff, the league believes that a crew of 20-25 may be all that’s needed to broadcast a single NBA game.
Additionally, an it has been estimated that an on-site staff of 300-350 hotel personnel will be necessary to serve 1,110-1,200 essential NBA personnel if the league is to return to play in July. The NBA is hopeful that games will resume in one centralized site at the Disney World Complex in Orlando, Florida.
The NBA is expected to issue return guidelines to teams on June 1.
