Spurs Legend Tony Parker Hopes to Own NBA Team in Near Future
Tony Parker has seamlessly transitioned from life as an NBA player to life as an entrepreneur.
The former San Antonio Spurs star point guard and future Hall of Famer recently spoke to Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated, expression his desire to own an NBA team one day. The Frenchman is already the majority owner of ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne in the French Pro A.
“I love the U.S. I have been living here for 20 years, and I don’t mind traveling. The ultimate goal is to one day own an NBA team. I know with the OL group, we have big dreams,” spoke Parker of his ultimate business venture goal.
Parker also anticipates that his French group could possibly buy an NBA team if one is to become available in the very near future.
“It’s a strong possibility,” said Parker. “Right now, we have different objectives and goals. But in five to 10 years … I am the type of person who always dreams big. I have already had discussions with the soccer president about that.”
Many high-profile NBA players have expressed interest in purchasing a team over the years. Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has spoken out candidly on multiple occasions on his desire to own an NBA franchise once his playing career has come to an end.
“I see LeBron owning multiple teams someday,” Fenway Sports president Sam Kennedy said. “Not just NBA, but perhaps international soccer and maybe in esports. One thing we’ve learned working with LeBron is that he sees the big picture. He has a track record of making smart decisions and looking for opportunities. He’s also been very successfully financially, and that’s what you have to do to become a sports team owner.”
James is already a minority owner of soccer powerhouse, Liverpool FC.
