Global Pandemic Forces Nike to Cancel Top AAU Summer Circuit
The AAU scene is taking a big hit in light of the ongoing global pandemic.
Over the weekend, Nike announced its decision to officially cancel the 2020 Elite Youth Basketball League. The EYBL is one of the top grassroots circuits in the United States, featuring the highest rated players on the high school level.
“As we continue to navigate the evolving impact of COVID-19, we are canceling the remainder of the 2020 EYBL season. This was not a decision taken lightly, but the health and safety of our athletes, families, fans and employees is our top priority. We look forward to bringing the EYBL back in 2021,” released the company in a statement.
Established back in 2010, the EYBL has seen the likes of Devin Booker, Aaron Gordon, Ben Simmons, Julius Randle and many other current NBA stars play in its tournaments.
The EYBL culminates each season with the Peach Jam – one of the most prestigious AAU tournaments in the nation.
