Giannis Antetokounmpo Named NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the 2019-2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. The Milwaukee forward won the award with 75-first place votes from a panel of 100 panelists. Antetokounmpo joins an elite crop of players (Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Kevin Garnett, and David Robinson) to win both NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year in their career.
The Bucks had the best defensive net-rating in the league according to basketballreference.com, and that came in largely because of Antetokounmpo’s versatility on defence.
If Giannis is to win this years’ Most Valuable Player award as well, he would become the third player to win both MVP and DPOY in the same season, joining Hakeem Olajuwon and Michael Jordan. And if Giannis is to win NBA Finals MVP to go along with all the hardware, he would be the first player since Olajuwon to achieve the same feat.
