Clippers Reclaim Series Lead, but Mavs Lose Luka Doncic to Ankle Injury
The Dallas Mavericks have been doing a good job at keeping up with the superior Los Angeles Clippers for the majority of this first round series.
But in Game 3, they were handed a pretty tough blow when their young star Luka Doncic suffered a sprained left ankle during the third quarter. He tried to play on despite the injury, but ultimately exited the game in the final frame and did not return. The Clippers would go onto beat the Mavs by a score of 130-122 to take a 2-1 series lead.
“We’ll know more tomorrow. He did come back and try it obviously and wasn’t moving great, so we’ll see where he is come tomorrow and then Sunday morning,” said Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle on the status of Doncic moving forward. “It’s hard to say how this is going to be, but we’ll see. We’ve got every advanced treatment modality that you can have, as every team here does, and we’ll see how this responds in the next 36 hours.”
Doncic, who finished Game 3 with a 13 point, 10 rebound, and 10 assist triple-double, will undergo an MRI on Saturday.
“It’s not that bad. Honestly, I had luck that it was my left ankle. It’s not my right,” added Doncic.
Game 4 will take place on Sunday.
