After Losing Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid Goes Down with Injury for Sixers
Death by 10,000 paper-cuts.
After losing Ben Simmons, seemingly for the remainder of the year, with a knee injury that required surgery, the Philadelphia 76ers watched their star big man Joel Embiid go down with an injury on Sunday.
Midway through the first quarter, Embiid appeared to have injured his left ankle and would leave the game. He returned to the bench in the second half, but would not play another minute in what ended up being a nail-biting 124-121 victory for the Portland Trail Blazers. The extent of the injury is uncertain.
“I’m going to learn more, physically,” head coach Brett Brown said following the game. “I don’t know enough to comment on it. But I do agree … every time I looked behind the bench, he was into it.”
Embiid appeared to hurt his ankle while standing under the basket and would slowly walk over to the bench during a media timeout. The All-Star big man had two points on 1-for-6 shooting prior to exiting the game with the injury.
At this time, Embiid is list as day-to-day, but surely more updates will become available in the coming days.
