Excused Absence

Jimmy Butler’s Status Uncertain After Excused Absence from Practice

After a dominating first win in the bubble, the Miami Heat were surely concerned after discovering that Jimmy Butler was missing in practice on Sunday.

The confusion was compounded when Heat swingman Jae Crowder seemed to have suggested that Butler may have contracted COVID-19, although the organization has not released an official statement on the matter. All that the media was told was that Butler remains in the bubble and was excused from Sunday practice for an undisclosed reason.

“We know Jimmy very well as a leader. He watches film himself,” Crowder said on Sunday, commenting on Butler’s absence. “So the things that we saw today, I’m sure he saw as well and we’re going to talk to him as soon as he gets out of quarantine and whatever he’s in. But it’s just next-man-up mentality from the standpoint of staying locked in and engaged because we know he’s locked in and engaged once he’s able to get back with us. It’s definitely a curveball for all of us to hear stuff like what’s going on with him, and you never know what to expect. You just have to stay mentally engaged as much as possible during this time.”

Whatever the concern may have been, it seems like Butler will be available for a Monday afternoon tilt against the Toronto Raptors per Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald. Whether or not Butler is to play on Monday, we will surely find out more on the situation prior to tip-off.
The 30-year old guard scored 22 points and dished out 7 assists in a blowout victory over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
