Toronto Raptors Assistant Nate Bjorkgren a Finalist for Pacers Job
The Toronto Raptors have had plenty of success over the past near decade.
With success comes pouching.
On Wednesday it was confirmed that one of Nick Nurse’s assistant coaches, Nate Bjorkgren, is being considered for the Indiana Pacers head coaching job. Bjorkgren joined the Raptors back in 2017 as a scout, but has had plenty of coaching experience prior.
“Nate Bjorkgren has been with me a long time. (He) was with me in the minor leagues with the Iowa Energy, then he coached a long time in the D-League and the G League and obviously been with me in Toronto here. He’s going to be a finalist for the Pacers job and he’s a good one,” Nurse said in an interview with Sirus XM NBA Radio.
Bjorkgren has coached since 2007, when he got his start in the D-League. He then spent time in numerous organizations, including the Phoenix Suns as an assistant coach from 2015-17. He is now believed to be a finalist for the role left open following the dismissal of Nate McMillan.
“He said, ‘There’s no reason why we couldn’t do this at the next level,’” Bjorkgren said in an interview with the Des Moines Register back in 2019 following the Raptors championship victory. “And sure enough, he’s been right on a number of things and he was right there again.”
Raptors lead assistant Adrian Griffin is another individual who has been considered for numerous head coaching spots in the past.
