Commissioner Silver Surprised by the Low Audience for this Year’s Finals
Adam Silver is not a happy camper.
The NBA has not been enjoying its best string of ratings theses playoffs and according to Marc Berman of the New York Post, commissioner Silver is privately not pleased as you could imagine. Despite knowing full well that the league will be competing with the NFL and MLB playoffs, Silver is said to be surprised by the low audience, especially for the NBA Finals.
Even more surprising is the fact that two of the league’s premier franchises in the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat are in this year’s Finals.
The lack of fans and competition is definitely hurting the NBA more so than other sports. While the NFL will always remain king, the NBA has been hurt despite seeing its biggest star LeBron James on the brink of his fourth championship. This year’s Finals are down an incredible 45 percent from last season when the Toronto Raptors defeated the Golden State Warriors.
What is the plan for next year you might ask?
Not hold the NBA Finals in October.
