Raptors’ Serge Ibaka Drawing Interest from the Lakers, Nets, Rockets
Fred VanVleet may be the big free agent name for the Raptors this offseason, but Serge Ibaka’s market is starting to develop and take form.
It’s an interesting one too.
The 31-year old big man is coming off his best season as a pro and the former NBA champion is looking to get one last big pay. After averaging 15.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 51.2 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from long range in predominantly a bench role, Ibaka is expected to command somewhere between $20-25 million annually.
The Raptors are surely interested in bringing back both Ibaka and VanVleet, but the price tag may end up being too expensive.
Among potential suitors, the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets have emerged as potential landing spots for Ibaka. The Rockets and Lakers in particular would make plenty of sense considering the Lakers are seeing a number of players come off the books, while the Rockets seemingly don’t have a single player who you could label as being “NBA-level tall”.
Free agency is in a little over a week and teams will be looking to make moves fast!
