Raptors’ Lowry Calls Trump a “Criminal”, Urges President to be Charged
The events occurring in Washington, D.C., left the entire NBA world shook.
Four years of inept leadership culminated with pro-Donald Trump extremists storming the U.S. Capitol building in response to Trump’s defeat in the 2020 Presidential Elections.
The events left four people dead and others injured.
Not only was Trump’s response to the proceedings simply disgusting, many, including those in the league believed that police would have handled the situation differently if the extremists happened to be of a different race. The likes of Doc Rivers, LeBron James, and Draymond Green all spoke out on the act of terrorism, calling out the racial inequality issues that continues to plague America.
Toronto Raptors All-Star guard spoke out on the topic as well following the team’s 123-115 loss to the Phoenix Suns.
“I was reading … there was four dead after the rioters stormed Congress,” Lowry told reporters on Wednesday night. “And the man that was president, like he told them to do it. That man is a criminal, like he should be charged. You basically told them to go do this, and people died.”
Lowry echoed the collective opinions of his peers.
“The fact that people were allowed to basically rush in and take over a federal building … if they were people of colour it would have been a whole different situation,” Lowry said. “What happened in Kenosha with the officer not being charged is just kind of a slap in the face to Black people all over the world.”
The Raptors and Suns linked arms in solidarity on Wednesday during the singing of the national anthem.
