The Shorthanded Raptors Fall to Coach Casey and the Detroit Pistons
The Toronto Raptors dropped their 18th loss of the season, as they fell to the Detroit Pistons 129-105 Wednesday night. The Raptors were missing six members of the coaching staff including Nick Nurse, along with six players which included OG Anunoby, Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam, Malachi Flynn, and Patrick McCaw, all due to COVID-19 protocols.
Acting Head Coach Sergio Scariolo and the Raptors tried to pick up the slack, as Norman Powell finished with a game-high 36 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Pistons overwhelmed the undermanned Raptors with a barrage of threes and fluid ball movement.
The Pistons shot 48% from three on 41 attempts on the game, and they passed the ball to a tune of 39 assists. Wayne Ellington finished with 25 points, which included an 8-for-11 performance from deep. Dennis Smith Jr. and Mason Plumlee both recorded triple doubles. Saben Lee and Rodney McGruder added to the damage, dropping 20 points each.
The Raptors will look to get back on track on Thursday as they match up with the Boston Celtics.
