Gary Trent Jr. Leads Toronto Raptors Past Wizards with Buzzer Beater
Gary Trent Jr.
Remember the name!
The Toronto Raptors look to have gotten a legitimate building block for their future in the 22 year old phenom out of Duke and since his arrival, Trent has been nothing short of phenomenal!
On Monday night, with the clock winding down and the Raptors trailing by one to the Washington Wizards, Trent got away with a slight push off before hitting a game-winning buzzer beater to propel the Raptors to a 103-101 victory. The former Portland Trail Blazers finished the night with 16 points and helped erase any doubt in his head coach’s mind of possibly calling a timeout right before the play developed.
“I almost called (a timeout) but I thought there’s plenty of time to get it up there and get off a shot,” Raptors coach Nick Nurse said. “There’s lots of reasons not to take it, and we were fortunate this time. We were due.”

As the Raptors claimed their second straight victory, they were forced to play without their starting back court on Monday evening. Pascal Siakam led the way with 22 points, while rookie Malachi Flynn poured in 16 points off the bench in yet another strong effort.
“Fred’s been iffy a couple times, but then he plays. But he told me to be ready,” Flynn said following the game. “We’ve got a lot of players down, so I knew a lot would be on Siakam. I just try to make it easier for him and the other guys.”
While the Raptors remain on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs, it is certainly a good sight to see the team’s youngster continue to step up!
