Raptors’ OG Anunoby to Suit up for Team Nigeria in Upcoming Tokyo Olympics
Watch out for the Nigerian national team this Summer in Olympic competition.
Led by head coach Mike Brown, the Nigeria will boast it’s strongest roster to date and one filled with NBA talent no matter where you are to look.
The preliminary roster has 13 NBA players, including former first top-3 overall pick Jahlil Okafor, Denver Nuggets guard Monte Morris, and Toronto Raptors own OG Anunoby who has taken huge strides in becoming a two-way force in his fourth season in the league. The Raptors wing is coming off a career-season in which he averaged 15.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

“You look at Isaac Okoro [who is not on this Nigeria roster] with the Cleveland Cavaliers, he is top in form,” explained Brown. “Every time I look at the box score from their games, he’s scoring in double digits. And so, the impact that he’s having in Cleveland, with their young team, is monumental and every year his role is going to increase with that franchise.
“And then you look at Precious Achiuwa from the Miami Heat, he’s on track to be a fantastic player and he went through a period where he was starting for them down there.
“I could go on and on in naming the contributions that each guy is bringing to the table for their teams, which is exciting for me, and it should be exciting for all of Nigeria, with the impact that they’re having in the NBA, because they are the future of the program.”
Nigeria will kick off its camp on June 20 in preparation for the Games and will kick off their journey toward goal in exhibition play against the USA, Argentina, and Australia between July 10 and 13.
