With Love, Beal Out, USA Basketball Brings McGee, Johnson as Replacements
Kevin Love has opted to withdraw from Team USA, while a positive COVID-19 test will keep Bradley Beal from participating in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
Fear not USA Basketball, for replacements are on their way.
On Friday, the team announced that Denver Nuggets center JaVale McGee and San Antonio Spurs forward Keldon Johnson have been added to the 12-man Olympic roster. McGee has built a reputation as a respected veteran through his years in the NBA, while Johnson has been playing for the USA Select team and has impressed a number of the team’s key decision-makers.

“I am incredibly disappointed to not be heading to Tokyo with Team USA,” Love, who continues to recover from a calf injury, said in a statement. “but you need to be at absolute peak performance to compete at the Olympic level and I am just not there yet.”
McGee will report to the team in Las Vegas on Saturday according to sources. The three-time NBA champion is set to experience his first Olympic Games.
The Americans are set to kick off their Olympic journey on July 25 against France.
