Raptors Eying Gonzaga Star Jalen Suggs at No. 4 in Thursday’s NBA Draft
With Kyle Lowry’s tenure with the Toronto Raptors expected to be coming to an end, the Raptors are expected to go after a guard in this week’s NBA Draft.
Replacing Lowry is no easy feat but it seems like the Raptors know who their guy will be.
According to ESPN’s draft expert Jonathan Givony, the reports from around the NBA suggest that the Raptors are “overwhelmingly” expected to select Jalen Suggs, the star guard out of Gonzaga.
An explosive athlete with All-Defense potential, Suggs is in many eyes what a modern-day point guard should look like. Quick off the dribble, able to break down their opponent, make all the right passes necessary out of a pick-n-roll, crafty and well-balanced around the rim, and a smart and capable defender.
Currently the Raptors have only two point guards on the roster in Fred VanVleet and the team’s 2020 first-round pick Malachi Flynn. VanVleet is coming off a season in which he averaged a career-high 19.6 points and 6.3 assists per game in the first year of his four-year, $85 million dollar contract. Meanwhile, Flynn had a very strong finish to a solid rookie campaign.
The NBA Draft is set to begin at 8:00 PM EST on Thursday evening.
