NBA, WNBA Announces the Expansion of 5G Partnership With AT&T
Behind the scenes, the NBA continues to search for new ways to stay on top of the growing world of technology.
Earlier this week, the NBA and WNBA expanded their partnership with AT&T – one of the largest telecommunication and internet brands in the world – to make AT&T the official 5G innovation partner of both leagues.
The collaboration between the leagues and AT&T will look to develop new 5G-enabled experiences for fans in both team venues and at home, with the focus being placed on augmented reality. AT&T has already designed a prototype feature in the WNBA mobile app which allows fans to view game stats in AR, similar to what StatsZone has become on the Chicago Bulls app this past May.
“By unlocking more viewing options, next generation game replay and data, real-time social-first 3D content, and immersive player interaction, fans have the ability to tailor and view their content in unique, curated ways they couldn’t do before,” AT&T executive vice president David Christopher said in a statement.
AT&T expects its 5G+ network to be in over 50-percent of arenas by the end of this coming year.
