Team USA to Meet France in Olympics Rematch in Gold Medal Game
Team USA is back in the gold medal game and they will face a familiar foe.
The Americans kicked off their Olympic journey in Tokyo with a loss to France and after the French edged out Slovenia on Thursday morning, the rematch is now set for the gold medal game.
Falling behind 15-points in the first half of their semifinals matchup against Australia, the Americans locked in defensively and mounted a huge comeback which they capped off by outscoring their opponents 32-10 in the third quarter. Kevin Durant led the way with 23 points, while Devin Booker added 20 points in the win, while Jrue Holiday added 11 points, eight boards, and eight assists.
“There were a lot of guys on this team that had straight faces and were ready to play when we were down 15 [points], strong faces is what Pop said,” said Durant. “They came out and hit us with a nice haymaker, and we were able to get back up and get that lead back.”
Meanwhile, the French overcame a Luka Doncic triple-double to hold onto a 90-89 victory in their semifinals matchup. Nando de Colo led all scores with 25 points along with seven boards and five assists, while Rudy Gobert scored nine points and grabbed 16 boards. Evan Fournier had an underwhelming performance but came up huge blocking a layup attempt at the buzzer to help secure the victory for France.
Team USA will look to secure another Olympic gold on Friday night at 10:30 PM ET.
