Atlanta Hawks Hire 13-Year NBA Vet Nick Van Exel to Coaching Staff
It was a relatively quiet weekend around the NBA.
Over the past couple of days, the Atlanta Hawks made the addition of former point guard Nick Van Exel to their coaching staff official.
The 49-year old Van Exel spent 13 seasons in the NBA as a player, being named to one All-Star team as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers. Following his retirement in 2006, Van Exel began coaching, spending time with the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks. He also spent time in the college ranks at Texas Southern University, an HBCU Division I school in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Van Exel also previously worked for the Hawks as a player development coach from 2010 to 2013. He will now be making his return to be part of Nate McMillan’s bench.
After extending both John Collins and Trae Young, the Hawks are looking to build on last season’s success.
