Raptors Push Win Streak to Three Straight with Hard-Fought Win Over Pacers

The Toronto Raptors are above .500% for the first time this season.

On the second night of a back-to-back, the Raptors grinded out a tough 97-94 win over the sputtering Indiana Pacers. Going into the game,  head coach Nick Nurse urged his team to compete as they hoped to delay fatigue for as long as they could.

“Well, let’s hope providing energy – it’s just that,” Nurse said before Saturday’s game. “You can go out there and just play hard and run hard and give a maximum effort. That’s mainly what we’ll be asking from them. Anything after that that’s where it would just be a huge benefit to us. But just to get some fresh legs out there, some fresh bodies to really give our team a boost tonight.”

Led yet again by a strong 21-point and 12-rebound effort from rookie Scottie Barnes, the Raptors gave it all they had as a different cast of players were able to propel the Raptors to their fourth win of the season.

“I think that not everybody’s gonna have it every night and that’s what you need guys to do, is to fill in like that,” said Nurse after the game. “But I think, again, the position is kind of why you’ve got a couple of guys there for. We love them to share it, we don’t think grey each night and all that kind of stuff, but I think that’s kind of what it is. It’s to see who’s got it going or who’s got a better matchup or who’s got fresher legs or whatever the case may be, and tonight we needed Khem and we ran him out for a lot more minutes.”

Svi Mykhailiuk led the bench with 16 points, while Khem Birch and Chris Boucher combined for 15 points and 12 rebounds.

“I thought they did, and I also thought Dalano and Chris were good, too,” said Nurse when asked about Mykhailiuk and Birch, specifically. “I thought Chris hit a big shot, I thought Dalano played a long stretch of just solid basketball out there – he didn’t make many plays offensively, but he was playing well defensively. And Svi got on a run there. We ran him out until he couldn’t really go anymore and he asked to come out. That was a great contribution from those guys, all four of them, really.”

The Raptors will now have a day off to enjoy their Football Sunday before they get right back at it on Monday at the Mecca against the New York Knicks.
