FVV Gives Back

The Fred VanVleet Scholarship to be Awarded to Black or Indigenous Students

Leadership personifies who Fred VanVleet is both on and off the court.

An undersized point guard who went undrafted out of a mid-major school, the Toronto Raptors point guard has been doubted time and time again. Yet, the now 27-year old VanVleet has constantly rose above the doubt and has become not only an NBA champion, but has secured the largest contract ever given to an undrafted NBA player.

Now, VanVleet is giving back to those that unfairly get doubted by society.

The Fred VanVleet Scholarship will be awarded to an incoming domestic Black or Indigenous student based on financial need, with preference given to a student with an interest in the Management specialist. A student’s academic achievements and grades will also be considered for the scholarship. Furthermore, the scholarship is renewable based on continued enrollment in the Rotman Commerce program at the University of Toronto, as well as maintaining good academic standing.

VanVleet himself will also commit to mentoring the recipient of the academic award.

The value of the scholarship is as follows: the selected student will have their tuition covered. As well, they will receive a $1000 stipend for books each year (Year 1: $7,100, Year 2: $16,900, Year 3: $16,900, Year 4: $16,900).

Way to give back, Freddy!
