Kyrie Irving Ready to Make his Return to Nets Following Lengthy Absence

Kyrie Irving finally had a chance to speak to the media on Wednesday.

This marked the first time anyone from the general public has heard from the superstar point guard since Irving announced his refusal to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Irving, who remains unvaccinated, is back with the team and is ramping up his activity in order to begin playing at the start of the new year.

“I knew the consequences,” said Irving of not being vaccinated. “I wasn’t prepared for them, by no stretch of the imagination. “Coming into the season, I had my thought process of being able to be a full-time teammate and just go out and have fun and provide a great brand of basketball out there. But unfortunately, it didn’t happen like that.

“Things happen for a reason, and now we’re here and I’m just grateful for this.”

Given the New York state rules, Irving will be unable to play home games at the Barclays Center without a vaccine and will therefore only be with the team during road games. There are only a handful of states who share similar vaccine policies as New York.

Irving has said that he continued to work out away from the team in his absence at middle school and college gyms.
