As Blazers Continue to Struggle, Damian Lillard Rumors Begin to Pick Up Again
As inconsistent play continues to plague the Portland Trail Blazers’ season, Damian Lillard trade rumors have once again began to rear their ugly heads.
At 11-13 on the season, the Blazers start to the year has been nothing short of strange.
The team has looked nearly unbeatable at home, boasting a 10-3 record, while looking everything but that away from Moda Center. The Blazers are a brutal 1-10 on the road and following their most recent blowout loss – at home surprisingly – rookie head coach Chauncey Billups had a few choice words directed towards his team.
“Lack of pride, of course that bothers me. If that doesn’t bother you, there’s something going on. Sometimes it’s not your night, cool, it happens. There’s a way I’m willing to lose, and that’s not the way I’m willing to lose. It was embarrassing,” said Billups. “Competitive fire and pride, that’s something you either have or don’t have. That’s something you can’t turn off and turn on.”
Billups was especially harsh on his starters, including Lillard.
“The young guys, they don’t know the politics of the league. But that’s something the vets should be teaching them. … I was more mad at the starters for putting (the bench) in that situation,” Billups said.
Speaking of Lillard, while the superstar guard has not given any indication that he would like the be traded, numerous teams are continuing to monitor the Blazers situation in the case that Portland decides to hit the reset button. While Lillard has state numerous times that he hopes to stay in Portland, Stephen A. Smith of ESPN stated recently on NBA Countdown that if Lillard is to be traded, he would push for a move to New York to play with the Knicks.
According to Smith, the Philadelphia 76ers are another team that remains in strong consideration amongst many in Lillard’s camp.
